ITS PLACE AND MEANING

From the Sanskrit, Sahasrāra, the Crown chakra is associated with being located at the crown of your head

Originally those who practiced tantric yoga and worked with the Crown chakra would have visualized a subtle, spinning, metaphysical violet, translucent lotus flower with many, many petals (often referred to as the thousand petal chakra) and a luminous circle in the middle. Today, you will usually see the Crown chakra represented in this same way

When working with the Crown chakra, you should remember that the practice is primarily one of visualization and the purpose is to bring you closer to the divine: for the kundalini, the energy of creation, to rise up through all of the chakras until it meets the divine

To facilitate visualization and activation of the Crown chakra, it has been associated with colors, elements, organs, crystals, archangels, positive human values and foods. These connections should be recognized as channels that we can use to help us release the energy and to bring us closer to our connection with the divine

It is common to associate the colors violet and white and the element of thought or consciousness with the Crown chakra

The mantra, OM being the seed-mantra of the thought element and the basic sound which contains all other sounds is usually used when invoking the Crown chakra. However, there is no reason to only use the energies of OM. Should your head feel too busy and full of thoughts, or you’re  simply failing to visualize the kundalini rising-up through the Crown chakra, there is every reason to work with the seed-mantra for the other elements, earth (LAM), water (VAM), fire (RAM), space (HAM) and air (YAM)

Due to its location the Crown chakra is linked to the central nervous system, brain and pituitary gland

The Crown chakra resonates to the colors violet and white

The element associated with the Crown chakra is thought and consciousness
